About the Artist, and Portrait Procedure
I have had many jobs, from electrical engineering to illustration to portrait painting, including a six year career in the Navy. All along I have been painting, now at age 64, I have a life time of experience to draw from.

As for my (soon to be yours) portraits; I paint from life, photos or a combination. Life painting usually involves a few hours of your time, during which I make simple color notes and take photos, from which I derive the form of the subject. In this way I may consider and develop the portrait over several days. A portrait painted entirely from life may be done, but even here I will often take the completed portrait back to the studio for final touches. Most portraits are in a vignette style, in which all of the perimeter is scrubbed in, see my sample portraits. All portraits are oil on double primed board, which is more durable than canvas.
Portraits from photos constitute most of my work. I am honored to be given the task of rendering in oil, a loved one. I rarely deliver such a portrait which is not greeted with tears of joy. Give it a try, you risk nothing. Do not send original photos, send me photos of your photos. I will also need an idea of skin, hair and eye coloration. Email limits your upload gigabytes, but it is worth 2, 3 or 4 emails to get me your favorite photos, you cannot send me too much information or too many photos, again you should not risk your treasured photos, send me photos of your photos, by email, or postal mail. I also accept physical photo memory cards, via postal mail.

I live nearby The Villages, about 2/3 up the state of Florida and draw most of my work from this area. Travel further than 30 miles will incur a travel expense. Portraits produced from photos never incur a travel fee, and are delivered within CONUS at no expense to you.
